My Relentless March of Endurance

2024

Single Channel Video, 15 Minutes

The Project is an exercise in building tension and release. It challenges the viewer to be patient and present. Carefully edited repetition and rhythm cause unease and anticipation, drawing the viewer in. Deliberately edited to avoid falling into expected repetition and patterns, the lack of resolution continually upsets the viewer's expectations.

The Project consists of 14 scenes, each presenting four channels of video. In each scene, a person crosses the frame from left to right. The person repeats this motion, sometimes precisely the same, sometimes with a variation. Patterns are established and then fall away; we end up back at the beginning.

Slightly off-beat and even off-movement, these missteps help shift the sequence, rearranging the regular actions into new configurations, creating unique rhythms and harmonies in their wake.
