Music video, 5 minutes

A friend from the record label Proto Sites contacted us. They'd seen our Movement Diary project and wondered if we'd be interested in applying the same method to a music video. We agreed to take a listen and see.
On receiving the EP, we listened repeatedly, confused as to how we were going to make a video for this music with such strict rules as we use in the Movement Diaries: long, unbroken takes, no camera moves, no edit gimmicks, no effects—none of the staple stuff you'd find in a music video.
We spent ages debating what we could do instead: short films, experiments, found footage collages, strange camera rigs, etc., but eventually trusted our friend's instincts, and they were right.
The stairs gave us an exciting stage and tool for Masumi to use in her movement. They also made composition consistent and reasonably simple, useful in the short time we had to shoot.
